It’s definitely not everyday, or every year even that we get to experience a Dre verse, but today he delivers “Gunfiyah.” The track initially debuted on his radio show “The Pharmacy” and has resurfaced as part of the HBO Docuseries, “The Defiant Ones,” we hear the track courtesy of XXL. The documentary focuses on the rise of music industry powerhouses Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre, both two of the most influential people to grace the business.
In October of 2016, Em confirmed that he was working on his eighth major label LP, when he released “Campaign Speech,” an 8-minute long track. “Don’t worry,” he wrote at the time. “I’m working on an album! Here’s something meanwhile.” As for Dr. Dre, the producer-rapper released a single, “Gunfiyah,” as a promo for “The Defiant Ones” docuseries. It’s his first release since 2015’s Compton. “How you spell C-E-O?” he asks on the track. “D-R-E / What a ni**a dream he could try to be / Even though I’m from a place where ‘a ni**a got techs’ don’t mean technology.”
